being in the navy is LITERALLY a 9-to-5 for most trades, apparently, so theres just fewer people on the bridge at night (even though, if anything, youd want more)
iirc the fitzgerald crashed in the middle of the night and the more recent one was at like 6 am
so if the legends i hear about yankees not having actual watch rotations is true, its probably that they were understaffed on the bridge because the usn is retarded
also if /k/ is to be believed, usn officers dont give a fuck about col regs so the ship probably diverted in the wrong direction or the officer of the watch went "oh well we're a fucking destroyer, THEY should move/stop" and then they literally killed becuase they were too stupid to stay in the correct traffic lane
