One of the earliest references can be found in a document called the "The Polish Chronicle" Chronica Polonorum which was written around 1113-1116. While the earliest literary source for Vareniki comes from the "Eneida" (1798), same with Pelmeni with significant references only appearing in the 17th-18th centuries.
