>>12261041>It wasn't a very good idea and even without the war the southern economy was going to collapse due to this.That would have changed in 1870 when the Pittsburg of the South, Birmingham was discovered to have Limestone, Iron, and Coal all in the same place which was the only place in America that had all 3 ingredients for Steel in one place. It boomed and 300,000 people moved there in the span of 10 years. "The Magic City" as it was known. Industrialization in the south would have started then and would have exploded, by this time either slavery was going out anyway or would be rushed out the door due to the rising industrial South with Birmingham leading the charge.
