one thing you need to realize and keep in mind with each experience is that you're a temporary being, that holiness, God, or however you'd like to call it exists within the fact that you, an imperfect being, will always make mistakes but so long as you're alive you have a chance to do better, improve. hold on to that light and know full well that 'perfection' is not something you can achieve, that will hopefully be enough to keep you humble. i think humility is the biggest key
Don't go the route of "oh, if I can get forgiveness then I can go off shooting people, but I'll say I'm sorry" - it doesn't work like that, you'll still be forgiven but not after being shown your lessons again and again until you "get it" because that attitude is both insincere and taking the gift of life for granted.
pretty much, be mindful of yourself, thoughts, and actions. psychedelics can help you 'call a spade a spade' in terms of yourself.
also practicing detachment, think about what you 'hang onto' - is it your hobbies, having the best life of luxury? this is helpful for relationships too, try to treat them like you would a flower. appreciate it for what it is while it's blooming and a fond memory after it passes. try reviving a dead flower - you can't. just like you can't/shouldn't hang onto the past. love your life with no strings attached. as cliche as it sounds, 'enlightenment' is not the destination - focus on the journey. what happens after enlightenment, anyway?
final thing to note since this is turning into a word salad - peyote in fairly large doses will completely rip yourself out of your frame of existence in a way that a dmt breakthrough feels like a walk in the park comparably. if you do this, only put back the parts of you that are good, try to not return to any negative habits once you've walked away from them.
