I have a similar issue to yours, if you could call it that. I'd be preparing to be in the military by now if my uncle wouldnt have convinced me to study defense sciences. Literally nobody in my family thinks I should be in the military except 2 people. I'm not really mad about it though, I wouldn't want a family member to die for Israel either.
You can see some of the similarities between latin and slovenian aswell,though not nearly as much as in english or french, but I think there is more German influence here than even in English.
