What hasn't been stated, is that Taiwan represents a particularly acute security concern in regards to the "First Island Chain" as represented in picrel. The stars on this map are US Military Bases.
China is currently the largest importer of energy (oil) from West Asia, hell they're one of the largest importers of energy in the world because of how significant their energy needs are. The United States' plan has been to encircle them so that a naval blockade can be imposed that would cripple their economy. Taiwan serves as a crucial link in that policy. In response, the Chinese have been doing what they can to try and ensure that should the worst come to pass that they are able to maintain access to the Strait of Malacca that leads to the Indian Ocean. The South China Sea stuff is all about this as well.
Keep this geography in mind when you hear about things like JAPHUS and AUKUS. These are explicitly being crafted for the intent of an upcoming massive blockade campaign. That is the acute security threat China faces from Taiwan on a macro scale, in addition to what has been posted above.
