I have a controversial opinion. I don't think the show is unfair or horribly biased like people make it out to be.
Take for example the final 4 of season 2. Could you say that its unfair that Trish was eliminated instead of Shinji even tho she finished 3rd and Shinji finished 4th in the CP challenge? Sure. Jet even said the challenge was rigged from the start against Trish. Trish never stood a chance.
But at the same time, how well or bad you do in challenges isn't the only thing that matters. If a fish is compelling to watch, maybe they are funny or they are really competitive, they put in a lot of effort, they are likable or play a specific role really well, even if a contestant like this fucks up during a challenge, they will be given opportunities, they will get bailed out a few times. They'll be rewarded by being compelling.
Thats basically what happened in the CP challenge. Production wanted the most compelling final 3 possible and Shinji is simply a more compelling contestant than Trish. If it was Tay or TJ at the bottom instead of Shinji, they would've done the same.
Now replace Trish with Jimmy. TJ, Tay, Shinji and Jimmy. That's a really good final 4. It doesn't really matter who's eliminated or not, with those 4, the final 3 is guaranteed to be really good, weather its TJ vs Tay vs Jimmy or Shinji vs Tay vs Jimmy or TJ vs Shinji vs Jimmy.
If it was TJ, Tay, Shinji and Jimmy as the final 4, I think the CP challenge would've been played straight and they would've eliminated whoever finished last, regardless of who it was.
Basically being a compelling fish is just as important as how good or bad you do in challenges and I think when you look at the show with that in mind its not as unfair or biased as people make it out to be
