Jews don't even consider themselves white, unless it benefits them.So are Germans, Scandinavians and Russians, yet they are all white. Like it or not, but Ashkenazi are a subcategory within the white-spectrum and definitely whiter than Italians and Balkans.
I like to post N.Gaiman as an example, cause he can easily pass for German, Polish or Italian, i.e. the main constituencies of modern Ashkenazi.
