one of the easiest ways to gaslight someone is by unexpectedly asking questions when he tells you what he holds as fundamental truths. you need to do it in a non-confrontational way, without even a hint of malice. try to sound genuinely dumbfounded. use neutral wordings like "is that so?". when he tries to explain himself, confuse him by suggesting alternative hypotheses for why things are a certain way (but without explicitly attacking his answers). commend him on his passion for the subject. if you're having a debate, don't attack his argument but rather adjacent aspects of his perception of the world. if he becomes visibly agitated you've already won. rub it in by saying "you alright?" and "settle down"
