>Early 00's Napster and all the client downloading programs happen. They connect p2p and if who you are downloading from disconnects your file never finishes but hey it was something. Gave computers AIDS all over the world.
>2010's -2020Torrenting was king. A bit tricky but easy to figure out, reliable sites, and less viruses.
Problem is towards the end Gen Z never learned what torrenting was and streamed everything, torrent software never hid IPs so ISPs would eventually cut service and give you a stern warning for downloading new stuff.
Also Utorrent and other clients began doing shady things like mining crypto without consent
>Current yearMusic gets YT2MP3 because torrents don't have any music that isn't bilboard top 10 shit.
Movies and TV shows? Stream or pirate site. browsers finally have basic safety built in.
Roms? Usually a rom site
Ebooks? Zlibrary or other sites that have copies
Audiobooks? Youtube
PC Games or Software? Still a torrent demand for this but a lot of people rather buy because CD crackers are virus payloads.
I have no clue what the future holds. It seems like Gen Z is tech illiterate and doesn't understand the concept of downloading your own data so if the internet goes out you still have it.
Many of them don't even understand using a computer because they all just use smartphones for everything.
The amount they rack up in SUBSCRIPTIONS is also pretty insane
