we have a monk in the party. they're notorious for being very very fast which the player really enjoys. currently his maximum speed is about 200 feet a turn, i pointed out to him that if he had picked tabaxi instead of elf he could go twice that fast. he immediately asked the DM if he could have a magic item to turn him into a tabaxi.
the next time we got loot he threw a ring that lets him turn into one (sorta) the player's way and the player stopped to do the math and determine he runs at 45 miles per hour and now spends most of his time trying to determine how he can abuse it
