Regarding losing weight, i'm not that much expert, but i think it boils down to how much you burn and how much you consume.Even mental activity burns. I think for bigger burns you need to get your hearth rate higher. For best results, i think you need to eat smarter and do more workout at the same time. You can eat well without starving.
I think the most important step towards self improvement is having a constant sleep schedule. I believe every human has a different natural rest period. So if you are the type of person who gets the best sleep after 4AM, then try to sleep everynight at 4AM and always wake up no later than 12. If you are too tired and go to sleep earlier, don't oversleep. It is very important to not sleep more than 9 hours / night, depending on your body.
