What seperates us from mere animals - is it not the power to overcome our own instincts, our own impulses and our own desires. We are free to choose and observe. We are free to make our own decisions and overcome body and mind. We are the captains of our own ship.
We can sit in front of a plate of food and decide not to eat it, no matter how hungry we are. Can an animal do it?
