generally the idea is that a lot of endgame content is locked behind gear requirements so it's a cycle where you get better gear to be able to take on harder content so you can get better gear etc.
still quests that boil down to go kill this or collect that, but typically with things that are actually a challenge to kill, require you to go through a bunch of different areas, or have unique mechanics involved. that sort of thing
