also call it personal taste but it is very obviously influenced by european history, hence the assassinations and violence, but it overdose it to the point where an adaptation of the life of henry the 8th or bloody mary would have been more interesting. you need characters to have a show and i don't think the wanton slaughter of the cast adds much to it at all.
