If you want sweet and friendly, try Speyside and Lowlands. They tend to lack the funk of peat.
Some scotchs mainly from Islay and some Highland are meant to be sipped neat over a while. You will get pass the iodine/burnt rubber taste/smell and start to pick up the smokey cheese/meats on the nose. They are savory.
