mushoku does the reinc right by making it change the core dynamic of the character so it naturally comes up in every scene instead of just being a cop out for useful flashbacks sometimes.
the fantasy is well done too with many interesting elements that aren't dwelled on too long or often go unexplained altogether so that u get the feeling the world just sort of works instead of everything feeling like some sort of set piece that needs 5 minutes of dialogue to flesh out. this also adds a feeling of mystery where ur left wondering about the specifics or potential of things left in the background
then ofc the story itself is interesting. since it's primarily character driven there isn't always some high stakes event occurring but interpersonal struggles aren't any less interesting than fighting dragons or whatever
