Experiences outside the physical are shaped by the perception of your soul. That's why so many people have seen good things and so many others have seen bad things. Immediate consciousness is weird and it does not "think" or reason in the same way we do here. Physical things are more stable. It's easier to shape clay than water.
Oh, and there are no mistakes. All paths lead to the ultimate because all paths are the ultimate. You can go up and down any time you want and in any way you'd like. Though, as I said, physical things are slower.
