didn't help either that you had h_pster faggots collectively g_slighting people into thinking that what everyone knew as emo (sonically posthardcore with semiconsistent f_shion across the years) wasn't acckshually emo (they suceeded if you looked on l_ddit, everyone thinks emo was indie bands with pr*to-h_pster faggots)
a lot of people also moved onto d*bstep since it had lots of emo adjacent people like skrilex but it died quickly
what we got as a replacement was cringey bald dudes making nerd shit that just got sausages only (reminder that emo/scene had a pretty 1:1 gender appeal and like it or not women drive whats popular) and killed rock's c*mmercial viability
rap is kinda going through the early 2010s (specifically 2013/2014) metalcore era where its not really mainstream anymore, the sounds feel the same, but it still has a sizeable fanbase, but everyone feels that something is coming, and people are just waiting for a new sound that won't come; everything new feels gimmicky and is played out in months
