>>14386224every single fucking mecha out there, eva tries to be so much yet fails to offer the most of what it's trying to give. it tries to be this middle ground between super robot and real robot which is unique yes, but then shoehorns anno's pseudo autobiography and catharsis for his depression and shit and becomes this mess that thinks it's bigger than what it actually is. don't get me wrong it's a fun show, the animation is way ahead of it's time for something to air on TV but it's genuinely not as impactful as evafags make it to be.
what's worse is that the west blows it up like it's the magnum opus of the genre and people end up thinking it's the only worthwhile giant robot to watch because "it's not childish" and "tackles serious themes and mentall illnesses" when they're too fucking lazy to simply just search the mecha category on mal and see the hundreds of entries they can watch and maybe even offer more to them. kinda like cowboy bebop, the few anime that's somewhat more popular in the west because they blow it up.
