op is right though, it never outright says to abandon torah completely in the gospels, paul says that. this is why you have such variegated and frankly crazy christian theology like dispensationalism. some christians go so far as to say that jesus message was only for israelites, but paul's message is for gentiles, which is why they can ignore most of the bible with a good conscience
part of the problem is that pastors are trained in seminary to just regurgitate "helpful" bible verses to spit at people when they have questions, so it's a very piecemeal, out of context mindset they have through no real fault of their own. if they actually read the bible from the start to finish, they would see that the gospels and especially paul are fanfic at best and bullshit at worst.
