Though you probably won't understand too much from the ending itself, basing your knowledge just on the scenario itself.
Pain mode's extra area and ending scenario is what really brings a lot to the table and makes it even more dramatic.
Do your thing and I would highly suggest you to look on the battle log from time to time - skill names can do for a great joke but can also provide some extra bits of lore you might need for everything to *click in~
..though nothing clicks as much as one of the easter eggs from Painful combined with Joyful ending.
