it wasn't unfortunately. the short version is that some moss moved onto land and started decomposing rocks very aggressively for nutrients or something. that lead to chemical runoff getting into oceans which allowed all the regular sea algae to grow to insane sizes then die which took basically all of the oxygen out of the water and suffocated all the fishes. also unoxygenated water couldn't react with the air in some way it usually does which lead to global cooling.
i watched the whole thing but stopped actually comprehending of it before they explained how we got out of that situation
