Pain and adrenaline shot through Maria's body as she covered Ash for the pin, having finally managed to get a solid hit in.

Ash was wrestling damn near flawlessly, for every time Maria attempted something, Ash was there, faster, hungry, with a counter. It was like Maria was attempting to wrestle water, water that slipped between her fingers over and over.

Relief washed over Maria, all tension leaving her body as she rolled off Ash's body, laying down spread eagle, breathing heavily for a second. She won, sure, but at what cost. It seemed that each match she needed to dig deeper and deeper into the well, putting more of her body on the line, simply to hold on to the championship, and she just KNEW Karna was going to be watching backstage.
Slowly she rolled to the ropes, hoisting herself back up, her knees screaming out in pain again. Fighting through her own body she got up on her feet, where the ref held her hand up in victory and handed her the Intercontinental title again. At that moment she became the longest reigning champion, surpassing Nikki Kade, whom Maria had beat for the belt and having two succesful defences, only one less then Ash Romero, whom she had just beat for her second.
A roar of victory erupted from the back of her throat as she held up the title towards the crowd in several directions before making eye contact with Ash, nodding towards the challenger and watching her leave the ring before continuing her celebration for a bit longer.
