Soviet industry was always 20 years behind western industry, and when the iron curtain fell. Most of Russian industries did not survive the western competition. Hell, up to some years ago, Russia did not even produce real cheese because they could not compete with heavily subsidized European dairy. This forced Russia to become a rural country that survive on exporting natural and finite resources for really cheap.
But these sanctions are changing it. Without access to cheap, and superior western products, Russians are forced to buy from Russian companies or get Chinese shit.
And since they are at war with the west. Nothing prevent them to break western intellectual property (something that not even Chinese dare to do in broad daylight).
Not to mention that war often leads to a baby boom...
