This, in turn, led to greater work specialisation since the majority of ancient Egyptians( and Mesopotamians) did not need to farm in order to feed themselves.
In less fertile and hospitable lands, such as northern Europe, this kind of labour specialisation was not possible until advances were made in farming techniques. This is also why the Mediterranean region, with its warmer climates, more fertile soil and copious fish-based protein, gave rise to the earliest European civilisations.
