But there's an actual reason so many don't, and why Americans boil water in the microwave or use a stove-top kettle.
Main reason being most people in North America drink coffee rather than tea, and so they'll have a coffee maker instead. As for kettles, the voltage is different, so North American ones don't draw as much power and so take nearly twice as long to boil water. Seriously, Bongs, if you're ever over here and see somewhere with a kettle, take note of how much longer it takes to boil.
It's just a lot faster and more convenient to do it in a microwave, since more people have microwaves than our shitty, slow kettles.
I have a kettle, personally, but most people don't want to shell out $20 at minimum for one.
