Right now, one US historical silver dollar = $20.65 worth of silver. (Each Morgan/peace dollar is .77 ounce of fine silber)
The key thing to note is that since around year 1500, from the German and Dutch "thaler" through the Spanish pieces of eight, the .77 ounce of silver was a "one dollar" unit until 1933, or 1964 depending on your math.
After 1933/1964, the value of the dollar dropped as if off a cliff. (2nd and 3rd world currencies even worse and faster)
