>>9854632>>9854692It's only a half-formed idea, but I kind of suspect that most cultures end up developing or adopting religions that not only fit into their culture, but also compensate for the shortcomings that the people (maybe even unconsciously) perceive. Islam is a very violent religion and most of the cultures that adopted it were similarly violent, but it also emphasizes the unity of the Ummah to those same very tribalistic and contentious people. Hell, 3 of the 5 pillars of Islam (zakat, sawd, and hajj, as well as the unofficial 6th pillar jihad) are, if not directly focused on the unity of the believers, at least have the effect of promoting it. Christianity is much the same, it "fits" into Western societies. If the pattern fits with China, I wonder what their religions take from the good of their society and what their own moralists felt their people needed to hear.
