Oh yeah, those are great. I think it's important to think of these sorts of designs for the future. The cheap and available energy we currently enjoy won't be here forever.
Notice how the extended roof protects the interior from the sun during summer, but not in the winter. One thing this illustration doesn't mention is how the extended roof also protects the walls from the elements.
