>>19704377Carmody Jefferson eagerly goes to the balcony with Sola Fire, and stands overlooking the Cyberia District: bright glowing spires laced with neon lighting up the night sky, rising like pillars of stone and glass to nearly touch heaven. Farther beyond in Spaghetti Town harbor, even the ships glow brightly, the water shining as it reflects the light of the cityscape.
The Indigo Superconductor is sweet, tart, and sugary, the caustic mix of citrus, faux-citrus, and energy drink doing a fine job of concealing the intense alcoholic content. The drink is cold, and so is the night air tracing around their bodies, so high above the city skyline. Carmody had been radiating sweat and heat from the vigors of dancing, from the hot lights of the club, and from a warm blanket of anticipation that seemed to enfold her and Sola whenever they stood close together. The contrast of the chill air on her hot skin is exhilarating.
>"Breathtaking view, isn't it?"Carmody sets her drink aside, nearly empty, on a table farther away from the ledge, then looks out over the edge of the balcony railing at the city skyline. It seemed so odd to her, having grown up in a world where Fayetteville, Arkansas was the peak of urban sophistication and modernity, and Little Rock was a vast metropolis. It had a strange beauty, but it was so bizarre and unnatural, like something out of a science fiction movie. Maybe a little bit unnerving.
Carmody looks aside at Sola, the dress clinging to her body, the profile of her pretty face lit in neon, her short blond hair damp with sweat. She smiles as a naughty idea flashes into her mind.
>"Oh hey, Sola. Look at t/h/is!"
