The indigenous Californians went through basically a genocide, at least from UN standards, are are now presented as, in a black comedic way, proof that Anglo and Germanic immigrants fucked everything up, even when the Genocide was already done by the time "whites" settled California. And while the American white settlers did originally continue basically slavery and Genocide instituted by the previous Mexican rulers, they switched by the late 1800's and tried, but failed, to help the native populations. So "whites"-- a lot of hispanics are white, the data isn't clean -- are basically blamed for what the Spanish and Mexicans did because they continued the same Genocidal systems for about forty years give or take. And this is literally what kids are taught in school. If I was a pupil today, I would hate my teachers with utter disdain.
