Which pagan traditions are you talking about? There were Roman, Germanic, Celtic, Albanian, Asian etc. there was variations in how they celebrated. For example the Ancient Roman scholar Varro defined their [pagan] festivals as "days instituted for the sex of the gods." That doesn't reflect your romanticised invented version.
