Nobel prizes aside, the USA led scientific developments for much of the 20th century, most of the scientific advances, such as nuclear reactors (invented by an Italian immigrant, invented it in the US using materials and supplies from the US with other US scientists), rockets that can take a 20 metric ton load beyond GTO (geostationary transfer orbit, aka take stuff out of Earth's orbital influence, Werner Von Braun became a naturalized US citizen when he designed the Saturn V's), internet protocol and the first nation to have internet and public internet access, Linus Pauling and numerous others leading scientific discoveries in their fields. There are literally too many things to list, just look through this basic wiki article on the subject, other great nations of discover are Russia and the UK and France.
