Anyway. I think one thing that deserves mention is how great of a job they did with the helicopter animations.
It's not even anything like engine limitations, resource constraints, none of that. Whoever was the guy in charge of making the helicopter stuff in the game just simply lazed out on it.
Every time that it appears, Jock's copter is planted on the ground like a car. Without even at least having the landing gear pulled out. I'm pretty sure literally everybody whose played the game has noticed how dumb it looks.
I get it if you just didn't wanna bother with making a model of the helicopter that doesn't have the blades turning and all, but, was it THAT hard to make it at least hover above the ground instead of being put down on it? I really don't think so. It would've made it a million times less dumb. (Which, I guess isn't actually a good thing. I prefer it the way it is. But I'm still going to nitpick about it.)
And why would it be such a bother to make a model without the blades turning, anyway? You already have the hard part out of the way, which is the model of the helicopter itself. All you would have to do is make a variation of it without the blades spinning, and have it not emit a sound. Then it could have the animation play once you get in and the take-off cutscene plays. Is it that complicated? No. All this confusion could've been prevented.
Also, if you pay attention to the cutscenes where you're taking off in the helicopter, it's pretty fucking crazy. I think at one point it almost makes a flip while going in-between buildings. The guy animating it had fun.
I guess while I've mentioned it, another one of the weirder things about the game is Jock.
The game just can't decide what to call him. In one level, he's simply "Jock", and another one he's "Black Helicopter", and that keeps getting switched around or turned into other things every single time that you see him. I couldn't figure out why for the life of me. This bothers me so much.
