So you own a small store. It gets robbed once in awhile. Some guy comes in from the mob that runs the neighborhood and demands that you fork over a percentage of your weekly profits and in exchange they will protect you from robbers. You really don't have a choice so you comply. You seem to be breaking even.
Awhile later, a thug walks in and robs your store. You get ahold of the enforcers and tell them your problem. They do a little research and find out the new robber is part of a rival mob that is very powerful and wonder if they are encroaching on your territory. They take it up with the boss who says that it would cost more to fight off the new mob than they could ever earn from the store owner.
The thugs find out about this and send a message: they come to your store and burn it to the ground, killing everyone inside.
You surviving grandson vows revenge on the mob that was supposed to protect you and kills the mob boss, then is arrested by the local cops who are working for the mob as well.
