From what I remember, it is shown that the Hebrews got much of their religion from The Babylonians and other such peoples. In fact, most peoples alive today practice religions that would be deemed 'foreign' by this standard. All the Buddhists outside of NE India, for example.
Are you expecting people to 'go back' to worshipping these old Gods? Most people don't even believe in the Christian God at this point. Good luck convincing people of Odin, Thor, etc.
