Some of you youngins seem to call everything over 30 a boomer. The 30 year old boomer does exist, but this is because they were raised by a boomer. I offer to you a few differentiators to determine the boomer vs. the gen-x.
1. Boomers and Gen Xer were often raised in the same large families. The boomer "had difficulties with their parents" but Gen Xers generally did not.
2. Boomers protested the war, went to Woodstock, hated Nixon. Gen-X only heard about these things 2nd hand, know some of the music, and have a idealized sense of it, if at all.
3. Ask a old person what he thinks about "Nevermind". A boomer will look typically confused. A Gen-Xer will say "OH fuck I remember when it came out and I drove to Seattle and..." or if you like it listen to "Bleach".
4. A boomer is 100% for Israel. Gets a odd look on their face if you say anything negative about their aggressive in-group preferences. A Gen-Xer will say "yeah they have too much influence"
Boomers spend. Gen-X save and invest. It comes from Boomers having indulgent, idealistic parents and Gen-X having the same parent but more as a more mature parent, teaching financial skills and wealth building and work ethics.
Gen X are more likely and capable of DIY. Boomers hire a brown person to do it for them. Again dealing with scarcity and declining economic standing makes Gen-X a little like their grandparents, and grandparents may have imparted those skills and often survived the great depression. Boomer's parents never brought it up because the hardship of the Great Depression and WW2 was something American's wanted to leave behind in the late 40's and 50's.
I hope this helps a little. Your GenXers are closer to you spiritually than you think and if you need some help fixing something...Ask a Gen-Xer. Play a little STP while they show you.
