This is a positive feature so long as science is dealing with, as Eddington puts it, ‘meter readings’ or the relations amongst observable dealing with events. But it prevents science from being able to even begin to address the problem of consciousness. Maybe this is the ultimate source of the explanatory gap, which shows the limits of the methodology of empirical science.
