There may be a God, but how am I supposed to know which is the real one? How can I be sure that polytheism isn't true, and that there aren't multiple deities all competing for our worship? There's also the fact that when you look into history and archaeology, there's a clear line of descent that you can trace from animism, to polytheism, to henotheism, to monotheism.
I can only conclude that it's all man-made. If it was truly revealed by god, wouldn't it have zero cultural antecedents? Wouldn't it have appeared very suddenly, and seemingly from nowhere, in the archaeological record? As is, it just looks like any other cultural feature that evolved to meet the needs of society over millennia. No religion that I have ever observed seems like a "revealed religion". On inspection, they all seem man-made.
I envy those who have faith, because it seems to bring solace to their lives, but I would be lying if I claimed to believe in any god.
