Christians used to believe that Chrsitianity was responsible for civilization. They believed that by spreading Christianity in savage lands, you would also spread civilization to those areas. There were some more realistic thinkers who tried to explain that savage people have head shapes more like a monkey, and these are probably never going to be civilized people. As a result, instead of aggressively and righteously colonizing Africa and building an advanced civilization there, Christians tried to convert the native people, and pulled back the colonization. Now Africa is a miserable hellhole that produces nothing but billions of suffering, starving people.
It's the same in Latin America. The Christians mixed with the native people to produce horrible mutt abominations, and tried to convert them. The result was a racial disaster, and now that entire portion of the planet is a backward shithole. We're losing precious species in the rainforest because the shithole people are burning it all down.
We could have left the planet already and started our interstellar civilization. But we're being suppressed by the absurd and stupid decisions of chrisitans. 2 entire CONTINENTS lost to the darkness. Think how much more advanced we'd be today if Africa had been producing just as many advancements as Australia, or America, or Europe. That future was possible.
