We are supposed to love God more than anything else, including our own lives. Jesus gave up His own life because He loves God more than anything else. The reason you fail to be righteous is because you're afraid of death. Why don't you call out the Jews in public? Because you fear death. Why don't you stick up for people oppressed at work? Because you fear death. But by death, the Lord conquered death, and gives us hope of eternal life.
