As you say, Americans expect chocolate to taste like metal and vomit, because they're used to it. To them our chocolate would taste unfamiliar, and therefore bad. American baked beans are much higher in sugar and fat, and basically built for eating at barbecues as sides instead of being a general purpose ingredient in other dishes. American beans are also far more hard than British beans, despite being much sweeter.
