In the deepest recesses of our being we are something so completely mutable and changeable that the slightest color or shape can awaken the deepest love or the purest hatred, the mercy of heaven or the wrath of hell. Deep in ourselves we can see the affects of the flesh. Our names, our minds, our sayings, our beliefs, our very identities are just tools to help us understand and interact with the world. We are a composite of countless others, a ship of spare and stolen parts breathing life into the world as the world breathes into us. We know ourselves only by knowing our relation to others.
Once born we were creatures blind to the suffering and pain in others, but by the grace of God we've come to know love and sadness. The world is a tool of misery, by which lessons of wisdom are carved into the soul. And humanity with all it's flaws, is the tool by which lessons of humility balm the sting of our own iniquity. A day will come, if we live our lives in bitterness, that we'll look back in regret of hasty actions and lost love. But if we can recognize our own flawed nature, that all who dwell on the earth suffer, we can live lives that fulfill and nurture those around us. And then those you love will know themselves by their relation to you.
