Maybe you have to be in the right mindest to really burst through the chrysanthemum, maybe the machine elves have to actually want to interact with you, IDK. From my experience, I would think having an open, curious and thoughtful mind would be more of a prerequisite to getting their attention rather than simply having a religious one. Basically not being an NPC. That's all I mean.
