In religion, the cults introduced at this stage seem to have centered on those around Poseidon and Athena. I maintain that the former should be identified with Seth, the Egyptian god of the wilderness or sea, to whom the Hyksos were devoted, and with the Semitic Yam (Sea) and Yahwe. Athena was the Egyptian Neit and probably the Semitic 'Anat who also seems to have been worshipped by the Hyksos.
