I am pretty sure you can find Christian interpretations that allow some leeway for evolution. Also, natural selection theory changes all the time, the original theory by Darwin was pretty wrong and biologists needed to patch the thing with a lot of stuff to keep it somewhat up to date with empirical findings. You probably can find people in Academia questioning the current paradigm of natural selection theory without religious stuff(isn't Denis Noble popping off on YouTube by doing exactly that?).
