When you go down this path, as opposed to the Einsteinian physics taught in schools today, things like unified field theory become much easier to postulate and mathematically determine. Everything just fits together more logically.
This lead to the mechanical interfacing and manipulation of the basic field, which gives you not only the propulsion system used by saucer craft, but the ability to draw energy from this field by altering it into physical forms of motion at the macro and subatomic level (movement of "things" as well as electron motion, giving you electricity). It becomes as easy as burning wood for heat, which is, when you think about it, just converting potential energy (wood) into radiant heat energy. It's really the same principal, but the potential energy field exists around you, all the time, waiting to be converted to both "matter" and other forms of energy (same thing, really).
You don't need to introduce "aliens" or "demons" or "magic" into it, it's simple physics, but it's the REAL physics the universe operates by.
