That's her husband, Mahakala, who calms down Kali's destructive dance (because she'd destroy all of creation in her berserker rage against the evil forces) by either letting her do picture related or by becoming a crying baby to get Kali's motherly instinct to subdue her rage. Smug and comfy guy on the right beneath Shakti? That's Shiva, Shakti's husband, and some say the creator of Yoga and spiritual practices in its entirety. Kali=Shakti, Mahakala=Shiva, more or less. Just different aspects/sides of divine couple.
