Don't get me wrong, there are still cases every year of someone getting hurt and passersby not helping or whipping their phone out for pictures. Blame the "communist" system of rot and corruption that exists in China. People WILL scam you if they get hurt and you try to help them. My biggest issue with China, more than almost anything (bad manners of rural/old people, widespread corruption, pollution, authoritarianism) is the way that animals are treated. I don't just mean dingdangdoggos, though I really do love dogs, I mean animals in general. MANY Chinese people have no concept of animal well being. Many seem to revel in causing explicit harm and suffering to animals, even if they aren't killing or eating them. Dogs boiled/blow-torched ALIVE because of some backwards believe that the pain and suffering makes them taste better. I could get over almost all of the bad shit about China, but the widespread cruelty to animals is simply unforgivable. There's just no reason to be evil to weaker creatures.
